Privacy Policy

Last updated: 30 September 2026

This policy explains what personal data the ORIGIN project collects through this website, why we collect it and what rights you have. We keep it to a minimum: the website does not use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies, and it does not load content from other services.

Who is responsible for your data

This website is run by SilicoLife SA (Braga, Portugal), coordinator of the ORIGIN project, on behalf of the ORIGIN consortium. SilicoLife is the controller of the personal data collected through the website, under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

For any question about this policy or about your data, write to info@origin-ai.eu.

What we collect and why

When you contact us

The contact form asks for your name, your email address, the topic of your enquiry and your message and, if you wish, your organisation and country. We use these details only to reply to you and to follow up on your enquiry. We process them on the basis of your consent, which you give by ticking the box on the form.

When you subscribe to the newsletter

We ask only for your email address, to send you news about ORIGIN’s results, events and Citizen Science opportunities a few times a year. We process it on the basis of your consent, which you can withdraw at any time with the unsubscribe link in each newsletter or by writing to us.

When you take part in Citizen Science

If you share a memory through ORIGIN Ancient Memories, we collect your name, your email address, your contribution and, if you wish, your age. Contributions are received by the ORIGIN Citizen Science team, led by NOVA University Lisbon, and used for research within the project; they are anonymised in any publication. We use your email address only to contact you about your contribution. We process these data on the basis of your consent, given on the form, and the participant information explains the activity in detail.

Please do not include details about your own health, or anyone else’s, that you do not wish to share. If you are under 16, please ask a parent or guardian to submit with you.

Technical data

Each form submission is stored with the date and time, the page it was sent from, your IP address and your browser type, so that we can protect the website against spam and misuse. Like any website, our server also keeps access logs for a short period (IP address, pages requested, date and time, browser type) for security and to keep the website running. We process these data on the basis of our legitimate interest in keeping the website secure.

Who can see your data

Your data is seen only by the members of the ORIGIN team who handle your request. If your enquiry concerns the work of another partner in the consortium, we may forward it to that partner so they can reply. The partners are based in the European Union, Switzerland and the United Kingdom, which the European Commission recognises as providing an adequate level of data protection.

The companies that host and maintain this website and provide our email service process data on our behalf, only on our instructions and under data processing agreements. We never sell your data or share it for marketing purposes.

How long we keep it

  • Contact messages: as long as needed to deal with your enquiry, and no longer than two years after our last exchange.
  • Newsletter subscriptions: until you unsubscribe or the newsletter ends.
  • Citizen Science contributions: until the end of the ORIGIN project, after which they are deleted or fully anonymised. Your contact details are deleted earlier if you ask us to.
  • Server logs: a few weeks, unless they are needed to investigate a security incident.

Your rights

Under the GDPR, you have the right to:

  • access the personal data we hold about you and receive a copy of it;
  • have inaccurate data corrected;
  • have your data deleted;
  • restrict or object to the way we use it;
  • receive your data in a portable format;
  • withdraw your consent at any time, without affecting the use of your data before you withdrew it.

To exercise any of these rights, write to info@origin-ai.eu — or, for Citizen Science contributions, to citizens@origin-ai.eu. We will reply within one month.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority: in Portugal, the Comissão Nacional de Proteção de Dados (www.cnpd.pt), or the authority of the country where you live.

Cookies

This website does not set cookies for visitors. The Cookie Policy describes the only technical item it stores in your browser.

Security

The website uses an encrypted connection (HTTPS). Access to the administration area and to form submissions is limited to the people who manage the website.

Changes to this policy

We will update this policy if the website or the way we use personal data changes. The date at the top of the page shows when it was last updated.
